Police acquires rescue vehicle

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) has acquired a rescue crane vehicle to intervene in case of disaster.

The newly acquired truck, the first of its kind, has the capacity to rescue about 600 kilogrammes each round from 55 metres high.

Senior Supt. Jean de Dieu Gashiramanga, Commanding Officer of Fire and Rescue Brigade in Rwanda National Police said the rescue truck was acquired to be well prepared to intervene in case of fire and other disasters in storied facilities.

“Rwanda’s level of development comes with security challenges like fire and this is one of the ways to be ahead of such challenges to rescue people and things that might be trapped in tall building and also put out fire in such storied facilities,” SSP Gashiramanga.

The truck can also extinguish fire above 55 metres high.

He appealed to the public to always call Police on toll-free lines in case of fire outbreak.

The lines are 111, 07888311224, 07888311120 and 0788311335.

The force, last year acquired another mobile crane truck which lifts containers, vehicles and other heavy loads, in case of accidents and other disasters and can operate in high risk zones.

Capacity building is one of the Rwanda National Police priorities.
