The Inspector General of Tanzania Police Force, Simon N. Sirro, on August 8, visited the Rwanda National Police capacity building establishments and commended the career and professional curriculums in skills development.
Upon arrival at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District, IGP Sirro was received by the College Commandant, Commissioner of Police (CP) Felix Namuhoranye, who gave him a tour around the college and an insight into the courses offered by the school.
The college offers Bachelor’s degrees in Law; Forensic Science; Information Security; and Professional Police Studies. It also offers tactical command course, Command and Staff course, and Police Station Commanders’ course.
Others include the Police Senior Command and Staff course for Senior Officers drawn from across the African continent, which offers a Master’s degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Transformation to senior Police officers.
At least five senior command intakes have been conducted, with Tanzanian officers among those graduates.
At the college, IGP Sirro also visited the CID school forensic laboratory, the computer lab and library, which is equipped with about two million digital journals and 8000 books as well as several facilities that accommodate and facilitate officers pursuing various courses.
Prior to his visit at NPC, IGP Sirro visited the RNP's Counter-terrorism Training Centre (CTTC) in Mayange in Bugesera District where he was received by its Commandant, CP John Bosco Kabera.
CP Kabera took him through the specialized courses offered by the center including demos of some of the drills officer undertake.
“We believe it is important to have firsthand experience of skills that our officers are equipped with. This is proof how committed you are in the professional policing, not only for Rwanda but also for all police institutions on the continent,” IGP Sirro said.
He commended the efforts RNP has invested in professional policing and emphasized the need for south-south cooperation in advancing and sharing policing experience and skills.
