The Rwanda National Police (RNP) on Saturday, February 28, joined residents of and local leaders of Ndera Sector in Gasabo District for the monthly communal work, Umuganda, which was dedicated to environmental protection.
An environmental activity was carried out on Ubwiza bwa Gasogi hill, where more than 10,000 trees planted at the end of 2025 were pruned. The exercise is part of broader efforts to prevent soil erosion and strengthen environmental conservation in the area.
It was attended by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, DCG Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza, alongside officials from local government and other security institutions.
Hundreds of participants were reminded of the vital role that trees play in sustaining life, especially as a source of the clean air that people breathe.
Leaders emphasized the importance of protecting and nurturing the trees until they fully mature, ensuring they deliver the intended environmental benefits.
Residents living near the site were urged to take primary responsibility for maintaining the trees and monitoring their growth.
The initiative highlights the continued collaboration between security organs, local authorities and citizens in advancing human security through collective action.
