The Rwanda National Police (RNP) leadership, on Friday, started a countrywide tour to evaluate the force’s activities in District Police Units (DPUs) and lay more strategies to improve service delivery.

The tour also serves to ensure that all police officers clearly understand the strategic guidance by His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, derived from his New Year message to Rwanda Defense and Security Forces.

On the first day of the tour, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza met Police officers in the DPUs of Rulindo, Gakenke and Musanze.

IGP Munyuza reminded them that discipline, being exemplary and teamwork are major pillars of service excellence.

“Aim for professional services which requires effective command and control, alertness, good conduct and respect,” the Police Chief told the officers.

He also emphasized on customer care, sanitation and hygiene, strengthening the ideology of proactive policing—community policing—and ensuring that people get the required services in time.

The Police Chief commended the officers on their performance, but added that there is still need to narrow the Police-public gap to make community policing a more effective tool for crime detection and prevention.

Community Policing is one of the ten priorities set by the force to combat crimes.

IGP Munyuza also called for enhanced fight against corruption and narcotic drugs, one of the high impact crimes.

The Deputy IGP in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda also toured the units of Kayonza, Rwamagana as well as those at Police Training School (PTS) Gishari.

DIGP Marizamunda appealed to the officers to improve public trust by working professionally, efficiently in dealing with residents’ problems and to work with communities in dealing with security challenges they face.

Similar messages were also delivered to Police officers in the DPUs of Gasabo and Nyarugenge by the Deputy IGP in charge of Operations, Felix Namuhoranye, who urged them to work and be closer with the people.
