The awareness and training on fire safety continued this week to members of Rwanda Cooperation Initiative (RCI), who were given basic skills on how safe to use electronic appliances as well as use of varied firefighting gadgets to put out a fire.
The training is conducted by the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Fire and Rescue Brigade (FRB).
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Dieudonne Mutaganda, the Director of training in FRB, urged them to always ensure that electric appliances are switched off after use to prevent any disasters especially when they're out of office or their homes.
"Candles, electric or gas cooker, clothing iron and other electronic materials can cause fire outbreak, always take precautionary measures before and after use," CIP Mutaganda advised.
He further reminded them to respect policies and the law in regard to smoking areas, which is both a healthy and security advisory.
"Smoking everywhere can cause fire because when a lit material gets into contact with dry materials, especially the thrown cigarette butts" CIP Mutaganda noted.
The Director of training also said that using substandard electric cables and other equipment, and lay technicians are also among the major causes of fire outbreak.
They were also given basic skills on how to use fire extinguishers; safe use of gas cooker including switching on and off, opening windows and the door before and when switching gas cooker, and ensuring that it's well switched-off after use.
Antoine Muhire, the Director of Rwanda Cooperation Initiative lauded Rwanda National Police for extending such fire safety skills to all groups of the public.
"We are going to be good ambassadors of Rwanda National Police in fighting fire outbreak," Muhire said.
The training came in line with Rwanda National Police's efforts to equip various segments of the public with basic fire safety skills.
