Police officers attached to the RNP General Headquarters, on Saturday, donated blood in a voluntary exercise held in Kacyiru.
The life-saving act followed a monthly communal work--Umuganda--where Police officers cleared shrubs and water trenches in Kacyiru.
The donation of blood was organized by Rwanda National Police in partnership with National Center for Blood Transfusion (NCBT).

Each of the volunteers donated 450 mililitres of blood.
Rwanda National Police spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that voluntary donation of blood is a culture of police officers in all units of the force.
"This is not the first time that police officers have donated blood, this is a quarterly exercise. Every after three months, officers at the General Headquarters and in other units engage in this act of boosting the national blood bank to save people in need of blood," CP Kabera said.

"As it's the mandate of RNP to protect the people and their property, and guarantee their security; that can't happen when people are dying. So, donating blood comes as one of the RNP human security acts," he added.
"The security is there when people have a good life and are healthy, that's why Police officers donate blood to save those in need."

Adeline Niyondamya, who headed the team from NCBT thanked RNP and Police officers in particular for the "life-saving spirit."
"We thank the leadership of Rwanda National Police and police officers for the life-saving act, it is a symbol of love, value for humanity and professionalism," Niyondamya said.

She added that by donating blood, you are helping those who lose a lot of blood during accidents, children under five years of age and women who lose blood especially when giving birth.
"We commend the strengthened partnership between Rwanda National Police and Rwanda Biomedical Centre to save lives."
