Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Wednesday, extended the sensitization campaign against narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances to various schools across the country as well as specific groups including anti-crime clubs, casual laborers, motorcyclists and cyclists.
The campaign against drugs will continue throughout the first week of the Police Month launched Monday.
While educating students of APEJERWA- Nyange in Ngororero District, Superintendent of Police (SP) Alphonse Mayinga, the District Police Commander, urged them to focus on their education, adding that abusing drugs affects their future and the country.
“This country looks at young people like you, that is why we are fighting drugs not to destroy your future, and you should be part of these efforts by reporting dealers,” Supt. Mayinga told the students.
He urged them to value education and to say no and report those who tempt to lure them into criminal activities like selling or abusing drugs
Similar campaigns in Ngororero were also conducted in TTC Muramba and CIC Muramba where students formed anti-drug clubs.
In the Eastern Province, the campaign was conducted in Lycee du Lac Muhazi and GS Rwamashyongoshyo, among other schools.
The Regional Political and Civic Education Officer (RPCEO) for the City of Kigali, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Joseph Nzabonimpa, while sensitizing casual labors in Kimironko, Gasabo District, told them that selling or consuming drugs is a criminal act.
“If you see someone selling or consuming narcotic drugs report them. Fighting criminality including drugs is equally your responsibility,” CIP Nzabonimpa said.
He urged them to refrain from abusing or selling drugs and work with the Police through information sharing on anyone engaged in such criminal businesses in their communities or where they work.
