[PHOTOS]: IGP Munyuza challenges Police officers on ideological orientation

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza has urged Political and Civic Education Officers to put emphasis on solving people's problems.

He challenged them to have the "problem solving ideological orientation" in whatever they do.

IGP Munyuza made the call on Thursday while presiding over the closure of the civic education training at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.

Sixty-four regional and district Political and Civic Education Officers (formerly regional and district community liaison officers, respectively) took part in the three-day training.

The Police Chief said that the training was designed to help them understand their duties following the restructuring of their positions.

“With the completion of the restructuring, the next thing was to train you so that you understand and carry out your tasks effectively," IGP Munyuza said.

“Share that ideological thinking to your fellow police officers and the citizenry; endeavour to know problems that people are facing, help them to resolve them, educate them... that’s the first responsibility," he emphasized.

He also challenged them to "lead by example."

“Practice what you have been taught, what you tell the public or fellow Police officers should depict your actions.”

The IGP called for change and to be result-oriented in whatever they do.

“I hope to see positive changes. We will keep on training to equip you with enough knowledge and skills to further improve on service delivery. You have to be courageous, disciplined and be defined by the values of RNP.

The training looked at the role of Police in the implementation of National Strategy for Transformation (NST), role of stakeholders in crime prevention and socio-economic transformation, promotion of government programmes through human security activities, the role of Itorero in promoting national values and environmental protection.

Others include values doctrine, ethics, professionalism, working with communities, and road safety awareness and decentralization process with focus on Imihigo as a tool to improve service delivery.
