[PHOTOS]: Excel security guards urged on quality service

Members of Excel Security Company have been urged to aim for service excellence and to create impact in safety and security matters.

While speaking at the opening of the four-day training of 20 managers and supervisors of Excel Security Company in Kanombe, Kicukiro District on Tuesday, Senor Superintendent of Police (SSP) Corneille Murigo said that it is “meaningless to think that you are providing security when services are poor.”

“Quality services can’t be separated from security; it is part of the national security and development vision. It is always good to look back and review the services you provide, this is one of the reasons for such training,” SSP Murigo said.

The four-day training focuses on the roles and responsibilities of private security guards, reporting systems, security of key installations, readiness, timely reporting and the role of security companies in combating counter-terrorism.

Other areas to be covered include surveillance and security awareness, firefighting and emergency response; search techniques and equipment usage; use of force and legal aspect; health and safety; stress management; ethics, core values, conduct and discipline.

The training, which has been extended to other private security firms, is meant to further improve their professional services, ensure that standard operating procedures set by laws and internal rules and regulations are respected.

Some of the identified violated standards include lack of professional training,  security equipment and staff welfare.

Private security firms are licensed and supervised by Rwanda National Police (RNP).

SSP Murigo, who is the Director of Training and Professional Standards in the department of Infrastructure Security and Private Security Companies at the RNP headquarters, noted that continuous training is important for professional security services and to further upgrade knowledge and skills to keep ahead of criminals.

Mushumba Rugerinyange from Excel Security Company also said that such training helps them to improve their security skills. Excel company started in 2006 and has about 600 security guards.
