Parents, female journalists join Rwanda National Police in anti-drug abuse campaign

Parents and the Association of Rwanda Female Journalists – ARFEM – joined the Rwanda National Police on Tuesday to sensitize the youth in the City of Kigali on the dangers of drug abuse and boost the campaign against the vice.

The exercise was held at Kimisagara Youth Centre in Nyarugenge District where over 400 members of youth associations in the city converged.

Charles Kabanda, the head of the committee of parents with children at Iwawa Rehabilitation and Vocational Skills Development Centre (IRVSDC), advised the youth to engage in income generating activities and focus on education, as a gateway to a better future.

He challenged parents to take the top spot in this campaign to guide their children to a better future.

SSP Willy Marcel Higiro, the Director of Community Policing also told the youth that there is no better future in consuming drugs like narcotics and illicit brew.

He said drugs drives the victim towards wrong direction, hence involving in other crimes like theft, fights and school drop-outs.

The exercise which was also held in Rwamagana and Gasabo districts will continue to other parts of the country.
