Over 370 Police officers complete ‘Unit Training’

A total of 371 Police officers, on Friday, completed a two-week ‘Unit Training’ at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.

Participants in the first intake were drawn from all regional, district and other territorial Police units across the country.

The course is designed to evaluate and harmonise on-job training of Police officers, enrich their skills in aspects of drills and duties, and skills at arms to further professionalise the force and ensure officers are guided by the Police doctrine.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, while closing the course, urged the trainees to utilize their skills to create positive change in their respective units, and ensure they share the skills with others.

“Security of the country is priceless, that’s why loving and sacrificing for the good of your country should define you,” DIGP Marizamunda told the trainees.

He added that patriotism means fighting anything that can hinder the country's security and development, including corruption.

“The purpose of this course is to develop teamwork and learning spirit, and information sharing; training is a motivation and strong ground for professionalism.”

The Deputy Police Chief observed that professionalism goes hand in hand with discipline and urged trainees to be exemplary and ensure quality services.
