A total of 209 police officers completed the VIP Protection, Urban Combat and Riot Control courses on Thursday, July 23, at the Counter-Terrorism Training Centre (CTTC) in Mayange, Bugesera District.
The six-week training, conducted in partnership with the Qatar Internal Security Force – Lekhwiya, brought together officers from various units of the Rwanda National Police.
The programme was designed to strengthen their operational capabilities in close protection operations, urban tactical response and public order management through a combination of classroom instruction and practical training exercises.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, CP Vincent Sano, presided over the closing ceremony, urging the trainees to apply the knowledge and skills acquired with professionalism, integrity and dedication in the execution of their duties.
“Your commitment, discipline, and perseverance are commendable. I encourage you to put the knowledge and skills you have acquired into practice with professionalism, integrity, and dedication as you carry out your respective responsibilities,” he said.
He emphasized the RNP's commitment to continuous professional development to ensure that officers are well prepared to respond effectively to emerging security threats.
“Rwanda National Police remains committed to continuously investing in your professional development to ensure that you are well prepared to respond effectively to emerging security threats,” CP Sano said.
CP Sano commended the longstanding partnership between the Rwanda National Police and the Lekhwiya, thanking the leadership of Rwanda and Qatar for fostering strong bilateral cooperation.
“This enduring relationship has enabled us to translate the strategic vision of our leaders into meaningful collaboration that enhances peace, security, and professional excellence,” he said.
Commissioner of Police (CP) William Kayitare, the CTTC Commandant, said that completing these courses is a commendable achievement that reflects participants’ hard work and determination.
He further explained that graduation is not the end of their professional development; rather, it marks the beginning of greater responsibility, CP Kayitare said.
The Counter-Terrorism Training Centre (CTTC) in Mayange is a specialised RNP training facility that provides advanced training to strengthen officers' operational preparedness and capacity to respond to complex security threats.
The training programmes conducted in partnership with the Lekhwiya form part of the broader cooperation between Rwanda and Qatar aimed at strengthening security institutions and enhancing professional policing capabilities.
