Over 1,600 officers complete Police Special Forces training

A total of 1,697 officers on Friday, April 24, completed the Basic Police Special Forces course at the Counter Terrorism Training Centre (CTTC) in Mayange, Bugesera District, as the Rwanda National Police (RNP) continues to strengthen its security capacity and professionalism.

The officers of intake 04/2026 include 38 from the Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS).

The three-month training equips officers with advanced tactical skills to effectively respond to evolving security threats and ensure the safety of people and property.

Presiding over the pass-out, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in Charge of Operations, Commissioner of Police (CP) Vincent Sano, urged the graduates to uphold discipline and professionalism in their future duties.

“You have completed your foundational training to join the Rwanda National Police. You performed well during your studies, and we expect you to maintain that discipline in your duties across different police departments and units,” he said.

He further emphasized their responsibility to safeguard national security, adding, “You must remain committed to safeguarding the security of Rwandans, avoiding anything that could tarnish your image, the that of the police, or the country as a whole.”

The training programme also equipped participants with a wide range of specialized skills, including weapons handling and shooting, combat drills, public order management, tactical obstacle navigation, and planning and executing specialized police operations.

DIGP Sano stressed that ensuring public safety requires continuous training, dedication and resilience. “The security of Rwandans is invaluable and requires dedication, effort, and persistence,” he added, urging the graduates to continuously improve their capabilities to address evolving security challenges.

Commissioner of Police (CP) William Kayitare, Commandant of the CTTC, underscored the broader impact of the training, noting that it instilled discipline, teamwork, and resilience among participants.

CP Kayitare added that trainees were prepared to operate in high-risk environments through practical instruction in weapons handling, obstacle navigation, and physical fitness, all aimed at enhancing public security.
