Over 130 CPCs trained on crime prevention

Community Policing Committees (CPCs) totaling to over 130 from Nyabihu and Musanze districts received training to improve their capacity in providing quality safety and security in communities.

In Musanze, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), IP Sauda Mujawamariya, during a one-day training on November 16, said: “As important partners in crime prevention, you are called to work with residents and encourage to uphold the vision of togetherness, safety and collective safety.”

“This means that we do not have space for criminals – and we should endeavor to cooperate and advance the peaceful society that our country has achieved ” IP Mujawamariya added.

“In the same spirit, you should advance similar interest in the community by overcoming those who are always scheming to cause harm.

Do not be caught dealing with criminals because it will jeopardize the trust which people have in you.”

Similarly, AIP Marie Rose Uwizera, the DCLO of Nyabihu echoed the same message and urged the crime preventers to always be close to residents and act as links with the law enforcers.

“You should work with police to turn challenges into  solutions to challenges, which will impact the. Lead by example and be catalysts of change in insuring safety and security of people living in Rwanda and their property,” AIP Uwizera said.

“Rwanda National Police (RNP) adopted Community Policing as a modern way of law enforcement - from a reactive to a more dynamic, open, quality-oriented partnership with the community. As CPCs, you should deliver timely information to police in order to play your critical role in preventing crime in society.”

During the sessions that were conducted separately, participants were given more skills on how to fight and prevent crimes, how to manage and handle conflicts, as well as urged to engage the public on how to participate in government development programmes that aim to uplift their livelihoods .
