Over 100 Police officers donate blood

A total of 113 Police officers at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District, on Tuesday, donated blood to boost the national blood bank.

The donors include staff and students at the College, who donated 450 millilitres of blood. Nine of the blood donors are investigators from Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB).

Commissioner of Police (CP) Christophe Bizimungu, the Commandant of National Police Collage, said that the humanitarian exercise is part of the formal partnership between Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), which started in 2017 to boost the National Centre for Blood Transfusion (NCBT).

“As Police officers, we maintain the safety in a wide aspect including physical and public security. Healthcare through donating blood is also part of that human security that Rwanda National Police values to help those in hospitals in need of blood,” CP Bizimungu said.

Christophe Kamali from the National Centre for Blood Transfusion (NCBT) Musanze branch thanked the Police officers for their willingness to save lives especially in this time of coronavirus pandemic.

The agreement between RNP and RBC specifies long-term collaboration in blood donation, fighting against drug abuse among the youth, mental health interventions as well as sexual and gender-based violence.

Other areas of partnership include enforcement of laws and regulation against risks of Non-Communicable Diseases, fighting counterfeit, selling and smuggling of pharmaceuticals; research activities and creation of a database for healthcare provision.
