The Southern Region Police Commander (RPC) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jean Claude Kajeguhakwa, on Monday, held a meeting with district coordinators of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) in the region to streamline the partnership in crime prevention and promoting safety.
The RPC, while addressing the coordinators, thanked them for their contribution in community policing and development activities.
“Youth constitute the biggest number of the population, and are mostly the ones who get involved in almost all spheres of a nation’s life. You, the representatives, are in good position to help your peers shun and prevent crimes, and be part our country’s development. You interact with most of those in your age brackets, so you have to impact them positively,” said ACP Kajeguhakwa.
He reminded them that their youth organization has been instrumental in driving the human security activities in communities, and urged them to maintain the spirit.
Their human security activities since 2013 when RYVCP was formed, is valued at over Rwf630 million, according to their latest report.
The RPC further pointed out that modern-day policing requires strong partnership, as well as mutual trust between law enforcers and the public, a necessity in building a longstanding foundation for safety.
“The involvement of citizens in crime prevention is essential to ensuring that our country’s security is sustained and we also achieve our developmental goals along the way,” said ACP Kajeguhakwa.
He added that each individual’s commitment to participate in an organized community policing initiative does indeed make an impact to the country’s security and development… “we, therefore, encourage you to take the lead in this course.”
The youth committed to be more vibrant in their daily contributions to national development and community policing and also committed to enhance their information sharing with all relevant authorities in a bid to collectively fight and prevent crime, bring offenders to justice and facilitate development.
