Only wins will grant us straight cup, Coach Ntabanganyimana

Police Handball Club head coach, Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Antoine Ntabanganyimana believes that by only ensuring maximum points in each match will grant them their third straight National League Championship trophy.

The reigning champions, who have not lost any match this season, registered an easy 33-19 win against Kibogora Polytechnic on the eleventh day of the national championship on Monday.

The win increased their tally to 33 maximum points, with seven matches left.

Zachary Tuyishime and Captain Gilbert Mutuyimana scored 10 and 8 goals respectively.

Mutuyimana is currently the season leading top scorer with 99 goals.

“We have not lost any league game this season but that is not enough; we believe that even a single point lost will cost us the trophy and we have to work hard, train and play as a team to avoid that,” says AIP Ntabanganyimana.

He adds: “We are leading with a difference of just two points and that’s a deadly margin and by losing just one match can bring us down; we don’t want that and we strive to avoid that by winning each and every match.”

Currently, APR is the second on the log with 31 points.

The four-time national league champions – 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015 – have so far won two cups this season – Heroes Day Cup and International Genocide Memorial Tournament Championship.

The law enforcers will face University of Rwanda-College of Education (UR-CE) on Day Twelve this weekend.
