Officers complete training in crime scene management

Rwanda National Police officers completed a basic training in crime scene management, aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge in solving different types of criminal cases in the country.

The five-day training was conducted at Police Training School in Gishari, Rwamagana, and was conducted in partnership with the American government which provided trainers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Participants included 30 officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, intelligence and Fire Brigade, who partook in sessions on crime scene photography, biometrics, search methods, evidence gathering and more.

The training was officially closed by DIGP Juvenal Marizamunda, in charge of Administration and Personnel at RNP, who urged the officers to use their acquired skills and knowledge to perform their tasks efficiently and promote peace in Rwanda.

“Endeavor to put your skills into practice and strive to get more knowledge and skills that will enable you to serve better in a sophisticated nature of the ever changing crime scene,” he said.

“As you do more training, you will be able to efficiently carry out methodical evaluation that considers all types of evidence possibilities through detailed and investigations, and then be able to advance RNP towards its mission to deliver high quality service, accountability and transparency, safeguard the rule of law and provide safe and crime free environment

The Chief Trainer from FBI Jason Coffe, said that such trainings are essential in helping officers to follow safety procedures while managing crime scenes to identify any dangerous situations or people and to keep themselves and other individuals safe.

By continuously training its officers in various fields such as criminal investigations, traffic inspections and the like, RNP steps closer to its vision aimed at making the people living in Rwanda feel safe, involved and reassured.

Other than partnering with national, regional and international institutions, Police has three schools; The National Police College in Musanze, the Police Training School in Gishari and the Counter Terror Training Centre in Mayange, which have had a big role in professionalizing the force in a very short period of time.

It is through such initiatives that Police equips officers with relevant skills to help it in its priority to deliver high quality services, accountability and transparency, in a bid to safeguard the rule of law and provide a safe and crime free environment for all.
