A group of 240 Officer Cadets attending the seventh cadet intake at the Police Training School in Gishari, Rwamagana District, visited Kigali International Airport on April 1, and interacted with several officials on how safety and security is maximized at the airport.
The Cadets were received by the Airport Commander, Chief Superintendent Desire Gumira, led them through a guided tour of the airport and it's security mechanisms, while they also examined how organs including migration, customs, cargo checking, and other security services interlink and work together to ensure safety for the airport.
In his presentation, CSP Gumira told the cadet officers that Airport security is paramount for any country, especially those experiencing a high rate of economic growth and development like Rwanda.
“Rwanda National Police has a duty at provide the best security at the airport, well knowing that it is a busy area with very many people moving in and out of the country including foreigners. As Officer Cadets, you need to understand this because you will be required to use the acquired knowledge and skills to ensure that this safety and security is sustained,” he said.
During the discussions, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) David Rukika, Chief Instructor at the Police Training School, said that such study tours are aimed at equipping aspiring officers with the necessary knowledge to improve their efficiency while implementing Police mandates.
“Upon your graduation, some of you will be deployed at the airport – and you will be required to be on alert and to act professionally, to ensure that safety of the travelers and the country is intact,” CSP Rukika said.
Another group of Officer Cadets visited Inyange Industries to experience production and supply chain of factories and industries, with an aim of increasing their knowledge about quality and safety of consumable products.
Such study tours are key to cadet officers because they are expected to handle various clients with varying complaints and in wide range of environment and situations that require vast knowledge and experience.
