Law enforcement agencies and local government officials have vowed to jointly work to uproot the sale and consumption of illicit drugs and outlawed alcoholic drinks.
The resolve was made recently at the district headquarters during a regular district security review meeting. Speaking at the meeting Janvier Gashema the Vice Mayor in charge of economic and social affairs said that production and distribution of illicit brews have been witnessed in the community.
He asked grassroot leaders to step forward and sensitize the masses against consumption of such drinks which remain detrimental to the desired economic progress of the district. The meeting also resolved to increase police crackdown on people who continue to produce this unhygienic drinks concocted from not approved ingredients.
Mayor Gashema also noted that excessive drinking of alcohol was found responsible for crimes being commissioned in the community.
He cited domestic violence and family neglect as some of the social evils brought about by drugs and illegally traded alcohol. production distribution of alcohol without a license remains illegal in Rwanda. Manufacturing is approved by Rwanda standards board.
