Over 130 people in Nyaruguru District, including medical and administration staff at Munini hospital, were on Friday, March 25, equipped with basic fire safety knowledge and skills as the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Fire and Rescue Brigade (FRB) continues its countrywide awareness to prevent human behaviours attributed to fire outbreaks.
Others trained include Police and military officers, DASSO personnel, dealers in cooking gas, pump attendants and employees in hospitality establishments.
The practical awareness looks at the causes, types and the components of fire, evacuation of patients in the hospital as well as clients in hospitality establishments, and how to use different firefighting equipment such as fire extinguishers.
Epiphanie Ntakirutimana, the Director of Administration and Finance (DAF) at Munini hospital emphasized the importance of the training to human security.
?We thank Rwanda National Police (RNP) for this important training, which has equipped us with skills to be proactive rather than reactive, against fire in our places of work and in our homes where we use electricity and cooking gas,? said Ntakirutimana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Paul Gatambira, the Commanding officer for FRB said that the training aims at educating the public on practices that ignites fire emergencies.
"It is a combination of fire inspection in public facilities, raising awareness on the causes of fire and how to use different fire extinguishers and fire blankets in emergency situations. It is a deliberate effort to prevent or reduce cases of fire outbreaks, which are largely caused by reckless human actions leading to loss of property and sometimes claiming lives," said ACP Gatambira.
