Nyaruguru District and Rwanda National Police (RNP) have given telephones to 332 village leaders and heads of security to easy exchange of information in the ongoing campaign to fight and prevent crimes.
The handsets were handed over to the leaders on December 12, by the Governor of the Southern Province, Alphonse Munyentwari in a function held in Nyaruguru.
Nyaruguru and RNP have a special partnership against crimes and to promote
human security following the signing of an MoU.
Munyentwari commended the partnership between RNP, RDF and Nyaruguru District, specifically in crime prevention.
Munyentwari said: "Such partnership capacitates Community Policing Committees (CPCs) and eases their communication to provide information to security organs about individuals and things that are a threat to security in communities."
Chief Superintendent Felly Bahizi Rutagerura, the Southern Region Police Commander pledged RNP's support to local leaders to execute their tasks effectively and fight crimes in particular.
The District Mayor, François Habitegeko said "security is the basis for sustainable development of a nation."
He also pledged further support to Police and other security organs in the battle against any sort of criminality.
