Police in Nyaruguru District have destroyed distilleries that have been making illicit substances in Ruheru Sector.

At least four people who were operating the illegal distilleries were arrested during the operation conducted on October 4.

They were arrested with over 300 litres of substances.

Police identified the suspects as Alex Rugamba, Vianney Harerimana, Felicien Komeza and Joel Kabuta.

The substances were disposed of in presence of the residents.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonavanture Karekezi, while speaking to residents shortly after pouring the substances, warned anyone distilling illicit substances.

He, however, thanked the residents who report drug dealers and wrongdoers in general.

"These substances pose danger to users, don't allow such people to poison you or your children," CIP Karekezi told the residents.

"It's your duty to fight or report anything that affect your social wellbeing and these substances that make destroy your spouses and wreck families is one of the ill-effect to your wellbeing," he said.
