Police in Nyarugru District met with about 30 couples and sensitised them on fighting domestic and gender-based violence.
Inspector of Police (IP), Stanislas Rutayisire, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) told the couples that the vice, which is among common crimes, although is reduced, affects families' development and leads to fightings and at times murder.
The exercise was held on December 9 in Gabiro cell of Ruramba sector.
IP Rutayisire told the couples that most of the conflicts are caused by consumption of illicit drugs like Kanyanga,Sky Blue and cannabis, especially by male spouses, which ill-guides them to batter their wives.
Other domestic violence, he added, is caused by property wrangles.
He warned against drugs abuse noting that their effects not only affect individual health but also a security issue in families and communities, which Rwanda National Police cant tolerate.
He further warned them against self justice and advised them to always lodge their complaints to nearest Police station or gender desks.
Among the couples included that of François Akimana, 43, who lauded Police for the advice and appealed to fellow couples to solve their wrangles harmoniously.
