A Police crackdown on people suspected to be involved in theft of electronics arrested two people in Kimisagara Sector, Nyarugenge District.
Fils Ntwarumukiza, 23, and Rukundo Mustafa, 28, were arrested in the night of Sunday in Kimisagara Cell. Police recovered several expensive handsets and television flat screens stolen from different people and shops in Kigali, from the suspects.
They are currently detained at Kimisagara Police station pending further investigations, Senior Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said.
“This was a targeted operation on people suspected to be behind theft of electronics in Kigali, and it was based on information the police had received from the public with Rukundo and Ntwarumukiza among the names on the list,” SSP Hitayezu said.
“This is part of the overall operations against suspected thieves and even buyers or dealers in stolen electronic items like phones, television sets, home theatres, car radios and DVD decks, among many others that are mostly targeted,” he explained.
He also reminded the general public to always buy from recognized stores, keep their receipts and logs of their items to help with proof especially when claiming their recovered items.
“We have stores of electronics at Kigali Metropolitan Police offices in Remera that have recovered in previous operations, and we call upon victims to visit the warehouse to see if theirs are among those recovered,” he said.
