Two people were arrested on Saturday in Kimisagara Sector, Nyarugenge District in connection with stealing two computer laptops.
The suspects, both students, were caught red-handed with the laptops, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said.
"The victim identified as Vital Mahoro was accommodating the two students, they allegedly sneaked into his bedroom where they stole the laptops," CIP Kayigi said.
"When Mahoro reported the theft, the two students he was accommodating were the first suspects, and indeed when Police officers located them in Kimisagara they found them with the laptops," Kayigi said.
It is said that the suspects were at the time trying to sell the laptops.
Theft, under article 166 of the new penal code, is punishable with an imprisonment of between one and two years and a fine of not less than Rwf1 million but not more than Rwf2 million, and a community service of not more than six months or one of these penalties.
