The District Police Commander of Nyarugenge District, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Edouard Kayitare, has reminded police’s partners in crime prevention to be professional and exemplary in order to be efficient in their daily duties.
He delivered the message on on August 6, during a meeting with members of District Administration Security Support Organ (DASSO) operating in the district.
He noted that DASSO members are always required to be reliable to the public by protecting their communities against individuals and groups who want to cause harm to lives and property through illegal activities.
“The public should trust you with their security at all times. This calls you to be professional and efficient, as well as not collaborating with criminals, but ensuring that they are apprehended and brought to face justice,” SSP Kayitare said.
“You should monitor each other’s behavior and insist on professional performance by each member of DASSO in order to improve your role in solving problems faced by the residents in your areas.”
He also reminded them to engage residents and educate their communities about crime prevention measures and how they can always cooperate through the provision of timely information against any criminal activities that undermine security and safety.
During the meeting, the DASSO members resolved to adapt prudent approaches to crime prevention and to promote their partnership with Rwanda National Police in overcoming insecurity in communities.
They also agreed to work with police in order to standadise their approaches to crime prevention – and thus become efficient partners in crime prevention.
DASSO was enacted by law No.26/213 of May 10, 2013 with the responsibility of reinforcing district decisions and instructions taken in connection with security, collaborate with other organs to ensure public order and work with other organs in prevention and management of disasters.
They also have power to apprehend any person caught in the act of disruption of public order and take him to police
