Over forty local leaders and community security agents in Mageragere sector of Nyarugenge District met on November 17 to discuss ways how to be more efficient in their work and how to cooperate effectively to ensure security in the area.
The meeting held in Nkuba cell and was presided over by Alex Karangwa, the District security Officer who urged participants to be exemplary, honest and share information in preventing crimes in the sector.
“Discipline and integrity are vital for one to fulfill assigned duties. Avert dishonorable acts such as drunkenness which may hinder your performance and put residents’ life at risk,” he told the security agents.
He urged then to tighten night patrols and maintain existing collaboration with security organs to ensure maximum security against crimes like theft, burglary, murder and violence.
Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) and District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), Sylvain Habyarimana, called upon participants to fight against the illicit trade and consumption of drugs and dangerous brew like Kanyanga, Chief Waragi, Blue Sky and cannabis which he said are associated with gender-based violence, child neglect, assault, violence and theft.
He urged them to map-out areas prone to drug abuse and report them to concerned organs.
He also appealed to participants to identify families that have internal wrangles and share information so that security organs can intervene before the conflicts turn into violence.
