The level of security in Rwezamenyo sector of Nyarugenge District has improved thanks to the strong cooperation between local leaders, the public and security organs, leaders observed on Monday.
This was during a sector security meeting that brought together cell and village leaders, and attended by security organs in the district.
“Security the sector has improved but we need to put further measures to maintain what has been achieved…and this remains a priority,” Alexis Semitari, the sector Executive Secretary, said.
He lauded the leaders for the collaboration with security organs and Police in particular urged them to maintain the spirit and narrow the partnership with the residents.
“Be closer to the people and engage them in crime prevention activities; the public know or can identify wrongdoers easily and they a great resource in development and security in particular,” he added.
Inspector of Police (IP) Claude Budaraza, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) said:
“Gender related crimes like assault, rape and defilement are fueled by drug and alcohol abuse. These, among others, can be averted if we continue to strengthen measures and make it a priority.”
He appealed to the leaders to tighten their night patrols and own the awareness campaign against crimes and sensitize the youth to be aware of human traffickers.
This community policing idea has been critical in improving security in Rwanda as the country remains the safest place in Africa.
