Police in Nyarugenge District, on Saturday, arrested a man after he was found in possession of 100 pellets of cannabis.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie-Gorette Umutesi, the Police spokesperson for the Central region, said that Mista Bikorimana, 30, was arrested in Muhima Sector following a tip-off by residents.
"He used to be a member of the local night patrol but got suspended due to his misconduct. Residents later informed us that this he is a drug dealer," CIP Umutesi said.
"Following this information, Police intervened and arrested him with 100 pellets of cannabis in his house,” she said.
She commended the role of the public in breaking chains of drug dealers. She further warned of increased crackdown on dealers and called for strengthened efforts through information sharing.
CIP Umutesi reminded that the police will continue to work closely with partners including the public to break chains of drug trafficking, which he said it fuels other crimes that undermine development, peace, and human health.
