Members of the District Administrative Security Support Organ (DASSO) in Nyarugenge District were on June 12 given basic knowledge on the law governing them and their operations in a bid to familiarize them with the legal framework in which they operate.
In a meeting held in Nyarugenge Sector, the Coordinator of DASSO in the district Edouard Mugabo observed that they found it crucial to bring all the 133 members, who include 12 females, together to remind them their duties and responsibilities
Among the responsibilities of the organ, under law N° 26/2013 of 10/05/2013 establishing DASSO, is to support local authorities to enforce their decisions and instructions that were taken in connection with security; collaborate with other organs to ensure public order in districts; arrest any person caught red-handed in the act of disruption of public order and take him or her to the nearest police station and to inform the nearest administrative organs of anything, which in its opinion, represents a threat to safety.
Other includes assisting other security organs, if necessary and collaborating with other organs in the prevention and control of disasters.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Edouard Kayitare, the Nyarugenge District Police Commander thanked them for the good work.
He appealed to them to always show respect while executing their duties to the best of their expectation.
Reacting to the acts of drunkenness in the area, SSP Kayitare urged them to desist from such malpractices and not to engage in corruption and bribery tendencies.
While officiating at the closure of the training, Mugabo urged them to handle the given equipment with care and to use them for the entailed purpose only.
“We equally have a crucial role in the maintenance of security and in development such as participating in Umuganda (community work),” Mugabo said, urging them to be dedicated, sacrifice and love for their work.
