Nyarugenge: Anti-crime clubs urged on vigilance

Police in Nyarugenge District have urged members of the anti-crime clubs of Groupe Scolaire St. Famille to stay active in their community policing forums to sensitise their colleagues not to engage in lawlessness.

While meeting over 100 members of the anti-crime clubs on April 25, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie Goretti Umutesi, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Nyarugenge commended them for their role in guiding their peers.

While pledging the police support, the DCLO urged them to use their forums to discuss good morals including desisting from malpractices of abusing or selling narcotic drugs.

“While at school or in your communities, discipline, respect and patriotism are key in your education life free from drugs,” the DCLO told the students.

She said police also involves their teachers on how to handle cases of indiscipline especially those resulting from abuse of drugs, and to identify and rehabilitate addicts.

“We need to know those abusing drugs so that they are helped, but also to know those who sell these drugs either in your communities or school,” CIP Umutesi said.

CIP Umutesi urged educators to provide young people with the right information on dangers of abusing drugs, to create an environment that enables them to open up on dealers and to live a focused life free from drugs.

The management of GS Sainte Famille, Modeste Ndayishimiye, thanked police for involving school administration and students in all endeavors to curb the scourge of drug abuse.
