Nyarugenge: 170 residents acquire skills in firefighting

Police in Nyarugenge district provided firefighting skills to 176 residents as a way of responding in times of fire break outs.

The training was conducted on July 23 at Nyamirambo stadium.

Beneficiaries included members of various religious denominations, school and private sector.

The practical training included on  how to use fire extinguishers, dry sand and water to put out fire.

The mayor of Nyarugenge, Solange Mukasonga, who presided over the exercise, appealed to trainees to make good use of the acquired skills and always respond in times of fire outbreak.

She also urged them to share the skills with others, check the electronic installation in their facilities and replace old ones and check other things like substandard appliances which can cause fire outbreak.

Participants also agreed to have procured firefighting equipment like extinguishers by August 15.

Senior Supt. (SSP),Jean de Dieu  Gashiramanga, the Commanding Officer for the Police’s Fire and Rescue Brigade , told participants that most of fire incidents are due to short circuit, overloading electrical appliances like sockets, among others.

He  appealed to them to always inform police in time in case of fire outbreak.
