Evariste Nsengimana 31, a resident in Butara, sector in Nyanza District was arrested by Police on August 15 for allegedly distilling Kanyanga, an illegal gin.
Chief Superintendent Hubert Gashagaza, the Southern region Police Spokesperson said area residents the act was reported to Police by area residents who spotted Nsengimana distilling the illegal gin.
The suspect arrested red-handed was found with eight litres of the illegal gin he had already distilled, CSP Gashagaza added.
He is currently detained at Busasamana Police Station.
Chief Superintendent Gashagaza thanked residents who provide credible information that led to the arrest of the culprit.
“The role played by these residents is a very good indication that we can have a crime free society once all residents realize the need to partner with security organs in the ongoing crime prevention campaign.” CSP Gashagaza noted
Trade and consumption of illicit drugs is illegal and punishable under the Rwandan penal code.
