Nyamasheke: Police officers donate blood

Police officers and administrative security personnel – DASSO – operating in Nyamasheke District on December 28, donated blood as part of the nationwide voluntary exercise to support the blood bank.

The exercise was guided by the Dr. Kazayire Marie Fidele from the National Center for Blood Transfusion.

The District Police Commander of Nyamasheke, Supt. Burahinda Ntacyo led the voluntary donation exercise.

“Voluntary blood donation is also providing human security; it’s giving a life to those in need and supporting national development. The first national resource is its people,” Supt. Burahinda said.

Dr. Kazayire, who also heads the National Center for Blood Transfusion services in the Western Province, thanked Rwanda National Police (RNP) for supporting the blood bank and joining the voluntary donation exercise.

The officers in Nyamasheke join their colleagues at the General Headquarters, Bugesera, Rwamagana and Kayonza, who have also donated blood this year.

About 1000 Police officers have so far donated blood this year.

In March this year, RNP signed a memorandum of understanding with Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) to partner in aspects of health and security related healthcare.

The long-term partnership also focuses on blood donation, fighting narcotic drugs especially among the youth; mental health interventions and fighting sexual and gender based violence.

The agreement also include cooperation in enforcing laws and regulation against risks of Non Communicable Diseases, fighting counterfeit, selling and smuggling of pharmaceuticals; research activities, creation of data base for health care provision; prevention and detection of fraud and public funds embezzlement in healthcare agencies.
