Nyamagabe: Commercial motorcyclists urged to respect traffic rules

Commercial motorcyclists in Nyamagabe District have been called upon to make safety first by avoiding over speeding, careless and dangerous maneuvers, which were identified as major causes of fatalities involving taxi-moto operators.

The message was delivered by Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie Solange Bihoyiki, the District Community Liaison Officer of Nyamagabe, while meeting with the taxi-moto operators organized under their cooperative—COOMONYA.

She reminded them that road safety standards like wearing a helmet are meant to protect them in case of accident.

“When you ignore road signals, accidents are bound to happen; that is why you need to act responsibly at all times, right at a speed that guarantees your safety; roads are used by many people going about their businesses, whose lives like yours, are valuable to their families and the country,” CIP Solange said.

She further urged them to be accountable to each other through their cooperatives and ensure that every member adheres to the rules and regulations of good road usage.

The DCLO also reminded them of their community policing duties in fighting and preventing crimes.

She appealed to them to desist from transporting illegal goods and criminals, instead be policing agents by reporting people they suspect to be engaged in unlawful acts like drug dealers and thieves.
