Police in Nyamagabe District has arrested a man identified as Albert Ndagijimana for allegedly killing her own mother.

The incident took place on September 3, in Karambo Cell, Kibirizi Sector in Nyamagabe District. According to Police in the District, the suspect used a hoe to bang her own biological mother after the later failed to raise Rwf 200,000 she owed her son.

It is alleged that, Ndagijimana hit his mother three times on the head before leaving her half dead. The suspect confesses to the crime and asks to be pardoned. He is currently detained at Gasaka Police Station.

The victim was evacuated to Kigeme Hospital though she died still on the way to the Hospital. Police investigations also reveal that, the suspect was a drug addict and used to attack his parents especially after smoking marijuana. The Southern Province Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Hubert Gashagaza, who confirmed the incident, condemned the act describing it as wild.

He called upon residents in the Southern Province to shun taking justice into their own hands but forward their grievances to government justice sectors.

The Southern Police Spokesperson also asked grass root leaders to resolve family conflicts before they lead to loss of lives.

Luis Karenzi, the Executive Secretary of Karambo Cell urged residents in the Cell, to have a shared responsibility in the security matters by sharing information with security organs to ensure such crimes are prevented.

Karenzi also appealed to residents to strengthen night patrols and embrace the culture of neighborhood watch.
