Nyagatare: Seized narcotics disposed of as Police strengthens campaign

Contrabands including 80 boxes of Zebra waragi, quantities of kanyanga, a crude gin and other locally made psychotropic substances have been seized and destroyed in Nyagatare District.

The substance were disposed of on August 12, in a public exercise held in Musheri Sector.

The exercise also served as a moment to call for ownership and stronger partnership against drugs.

The campaign also included a friendly football match that was also organised in the spirit of raising awareness against narcotic drugs.

District Police Commander (DPC) of Nyagatare, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)  Peter Tebuka credited residents of Musheri for their commitment and information sharing on drug dealers and other suspected criminals.

“Let's build on this commitment and ensure that no drug dealers use your houses or communities to sell illicit drugs or use it as transit route; if you suspect anyone to be a drug dealer just call the police or other security organs and local leaders," the DPC told the residents.

The vice Mayor of Nyagatare in charge of Social Affairs Juliette Murekatete urged them to fight anything that affects their wellbeing and the future of their children.

The youth are the majority drug dealers and abusers.

The vice mayor called for strengthened community night patrols--Irondo-- and active participation in community development activities.
