Members of community night patrol in Nyagatare District have been called upon to strengthen their efforts to identify and report people they suspect to be involved in illegal and criminal activities.
Speaking to over 100 members of the professional local patrol in Tuesday, the vice mayor of Nyagatare in charge of economic development, Steven Rurangwa commended them for the patriotic service to make communities safe and secure.
The community patrols were drawn from the sectors of Kiyombe, Mukama, Mimuri, Gatunda and Rukomo.
He urged them to strengthen their partnership with residents and security organs to ensure that criminals like drug dealers are arrested.
“Discipline is a very paramount aspect to achieve any set objectives; it's a driving and guiding force towards effective security in communities,” said Rurangwa.
Senior Supt. Hodali Rwanyindo, the District Police Commander asked the community patrol members to be exemplary to win the trust and confidence of the people.
“Avoid abusing drugs or working with drug dealers and other criminals," the DPC told the members.
SSP Rwanyindo urged them to also report families facing disputesso as to help resolve them before they turn violent.
