A man, who attempted to bribe Police officers to influence "criminal decisions" was arrested on Thursday in Barija, Nyagatare District.
Jean de Dieu Habimana, 38, had offered a bribe of Rwf30, 000 in order to have his relative released from Police custody.
The relative had been arrested for allegedly trafficking illicit gin.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Theobald Kanamugire, the Eastern region Police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest.
"Police had earlier that day arrested one Elyse Niyonsenga after he was found trafficking zebra waragi (illicit gin). Habimana appeared later, tried to seduce the officers with Rwf30, 000 to release Niyonsenga and he was also arrested," CIP Kanamugire explained.
“Corruption has diverse effects on the economy, service delivery, governance and justice. Fighting this crime requires that we all join efforts, through community policing and report anyone who gives or solicits a bribe,” he added.
