Nyagatare local leaders challenged on exemplary services

The Minister for Local Government Francis Kaboneka has challenged local leaders in Nyagatare district to lead by example and to work with the public in implementing security and development initiatives.

Minister Kaboneka made the call on October 7 while meeting the leaders from the Village to the district level in Nyagatare.

The meeting was also attended by the Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana, Gen. Ibingira and the Governor of the Eastern Province Odetta Uwamariya, among others.

He particularly commended the voluntary work done by Umudugudu (village) leaders in mobilising the people to implement government development programmes.

He wondered why the Nyagatare came ninth in committing performance contract.

IGP Gasana called on leaders to be exemplary and fight "evils" such as corruption, human and drug trafficking.

"Security and development move hand-in-hand and we implement them concurrently," IGP Gasana said.

Governor Uwamariya noted that "offering quality and quick services is not a favour but an obligation."
