Police in Nyagatare district, on January 16, disposed of assorted narcotic drugs that were recently intercepted in police operations conducted in different places of the country.
The impounded drugs included among others; 345 cartons of zebra waragi, 180 liters of kanyanga and 53 pellets of cannabis.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Albert Nyirimigabo, the Gatunda Police Station Commander said the narcotic drugs were intercepted during operations conducted as a move to further crackdown on such substances to ensure that communities are free of drugs abuse.
He further appealed to residents to refrain from drug dealing and consumption, and instead collaborate with security organs through timely information sharing to ensure the psychiatric substances are effectively prevented in communities.
CIP Nyirimigabo commended partnership with residents noting that, “we were tipped on many occasions by residents supply routes of narcotic drugs, and such information facilitated our operations leading to interception of varied substances and arrest of suspects”.
“With such partnership, I am confident to say that, we can make our communities crime free and this would in the end help to fast-track community development,” Nyirimigabo said urging calling residents for more cooperation through community policing initiative to ensure that suspected criminals are reported to facilitate their arrest.
“Drug abuse is a serious security challenge. Besides being a security challenge, narcotic drugs have diverse effects on health,” he noted warning that Police in partnership have devised stringent measures to arrest those involved in the vice.
