Nyabihu: Two Women arrested carrying contrabands like babies

Two women were arrested Friday in Nyabihu District after they were found trafficking contrabands.

According to the Police, the two women had wrapped combined 540 sachets of Blue Sky at the back to guise as if they're carrying babies.

Blue Sky, a gin packed in banned polythene bags, is classified as narcotic drugs in Rwanda.

Reacting to the arrest, the Western region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) innocent Gasasira said that police acted on information provided by residents to carry out the successful operation.

"They carried the contrabands like babies at the back so as to beat security. This is one of the known tricks employed by women trafficking drugs," CIP Gasasira said.

He said contrabands such as Blue sky, chase waragi, living waragi, host waragi, coffee spirit, African gin and other locally made illicit brew are often seized in the district.

Operations, he said, have been strengthened alongside awareness campaigns to identity trafficker and to break supply chains.

He appealed to the public to continue the spirit of partnership, which he said has been instrumental in prevention, detection, and fighting crime.
