Eighty four boxes of sky blue, an illicit gin were on August 4 intercepted by Police in Nyabihu District.
Also impound are 35 kilogrammes of fertilisers meant for farmers to increase production, that were being smuggled.
They were impounded in a targeted operation conducted in Rugeshi cell of Mukamira sector following a tip off from area residents.
Twelve people were arrested in connection with the illegal acts and are currently detained at Mukamira Police station as investigations continue.
One of the suspects; Theogene Ndahimana, who was caught smuggling fertilisers confessed having smuggled the fertilisers, begged for forgiveness arguing that it was his first time and that he won't commit such unlawful act again.
The Western region Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector of Police Jovan Mvano warned the population against such illegal businesses.
He thanked the residents for the information that led to the arrest of the suspects and appealed to them to continue reporting in time anything that may threaten their security and affect their well-being.
