Members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in Rugera and Shyira sectors in Nyabihu District met on May 7 to discuss on issues related to security in the area and exchange ideas on how to deal with the existing security challenges.
The one day meeting of 141 members who represented others in a meeting held in Gakoro Cell in Rugera was presided over by the District Police Commander, Supt. Alex Fata.
Supt. Fata emphasized the need to be tough on fighting sell and use of illicit drugs like cannabis and illicit gin.
He further appealed to them to sensitize the residents against criminality through neighborhood watch and timely information sharing.
They were also told to be exemplary, uphold disciple and trustworthiness
"You cannot urge people to fight and prevent crime when you are a criminal yourself. You therefore need to lead and act by example."
Boniface Dusabumugisha, one of the participants said: "Meeting like this is crucial because we learn and understand more about our security role."
Dusabumugisha thanked Rwanda National Police for showing them the right way and appealed to colleagues to heed the call and be active in their daily duties to promote safety and security in communities.
