The Regional Police Commander ( RPC) for the Eastern region, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dismas Rutaganira called on drivers and commercial motorcyclists to equally be at the forefront in preventing crime.
ACP Rutaganira made the remarks on September 14 in Ngoma District while addressing heads and members of travel agencies and motorcycle cooperatives.
This was during a regular community outreach exercise aimed at strengthening collaborations in security related matters including drug trafficking.
The RPC asked them to up their responsibility in enforcing discipline and security among members.
“Some of your members have been reported in activities related to abetting crime by way of transporting criminals and illegal goods,” he added.
“Always respect road traffic regulations and avoid speeding; motorcyclists should wear helmets and reflector jackets,” ACP Rutaganira said.
He called for partnership by reporting suspected criminals or reckless drivers and motorcyclists, and urged called for internal action against defiant members, who tarnish the image of their cooperatives.
