Police in Ngoma District has called upon all public and private entities as well as residents to own efforts geared towards ensuring and sustaining safety and security.
The call was made during a meeting held recently with grassroots leaders, heads of schools, opinion leaders and heads of faith-based organizations in Remera Sector.
This was during an event to review social welfare and economic development in the sector.
Inspector of Police (IP) Theophile Ndayisaba, the District Community Liaisons Officer (DCLO), said: “Whatever you do, security will always be part of the success, and therefore should be part and parcel of everything you do.”
He particularly urged local leaders to actively engage the resident to ensure social cohesion and implement community policing initiatives.
IP Ndayisaba, however, lauded the existing partnership in fighting and preventing crimes through information, which he said, should be built on to narrow gaps that still exist and utilized by criminals like drug leaders, thieves and gender based violence.
“You shouldn’t repose; criminals never cease to plan to cause havoc but collectively approach will leave no room for wrongdoers,” he said.
Participants resolved to increase efforts in stopping drugs abuse and excessive drinking, behaviors which fuel and undermine development, peace, and security in the community.
They observed that such conducts are the root causes of other crimes such as theft, domestic violence and child neglect among others.
