Nduba residents urged to fight GBV

Residents of Nduba Sector in Gasabo District have been called upon to increase efforts against gender-based-violence by collaborating with security agencies and timely reporting where such cases are suspected or witnessed.

The message was echoed by Police officers accompanied by local leaders, on Friday, during the tour of the Mobile Police Station Vehicle in the area.

During the sensitization campaign, Superintendent Beline Mukamana, the Director for Anti-Gender-Based Violence and Child Abuse Directorate at Rwanda National Police (RNP) encouraged over 300 residents of Nduba to take part in fighting gender based crimes against women and children.

The Mobile Station Service Vehicle is reserved for citizens residing or working in places located far away from police stations, with a mobile vehicle periodically traversing remote villages looking for residents who wish to file complaints or report injustices.

Supt. Mukamana encouraged Nduba residents to strengthen community meetings commonly known as Umugoroba w'ababyeyi as a mechanism to resolve family wrangles and collectively find solutions to misunderstandings that could lead to divorce or other disputes.

She said, “Security begins from homes; family wrangles have an effect on national development. Its paramount for people to exploit community meetings, and ensure they report GBV offenses.”

Besides the message that was echoed by Police, residents of Nduba also filed their complaints to the Mobile Police Station Vehicle.

The head of civil affairs in Nduba Sector, Eugenie Uwineza, hailed RNP’s role in ensuring public safety especially in the quest to fight against gender based crimes.

She also urged residents to always report all crimes to police including those of drug abuse.

“Abuse of drugs does not only affect people’s health, but also leads to committing crimes, which we should all stand up against,” said Uwineza.
