The record five-time National Handball League champions, Police Handball Club continued their impressive season on Sunday with a hard-fought win over their usual closest challenger APR.
Zacharie Tuyishime and Gilbert Mutuyimana scored nine and six goals, respectively, to guide the law enforcers to a 36-31 win in a match played at Kimisagara Youth Centre.
It was day eight of 2018 handball season as the law enforcers continued the unbeaten season run to continue managing the table with maximum 24 points, and scoring 184 goals in all games.
The defending champions are second on the log with 19 points and scoring 153 goals in seven games so far played, while Inyemeramihigo lies third with 16 points.
Police Handball Club coach, Senior Sergeant Dismas Turatsinze said: “We believe that every lost match or any draw is a chance lost, and we work every day in training and in the match to get maximum points.”
He added: “This spirit has helped us to win the Heroes Day Cup and so far so good in all the 12 matches we have played in the league championship, but we have to bear in mind that we still have ten games to go.”
Police is seeking to reclaim its glory after losing the championship trophy on the last day last season when they lost to APR. Police won the 2014, 2015 and 2016 championships.
The 2018 Heroes Cup champion started the season with three new players Viateur Rwamanywa, Emmanuel Murwanashyaka and Alex Nshimiyimana, all signed from APR.
