A woman identified as Odette Ingabire of Gisenyi sector in Rubavu District has been arrested in connection with trafficking cannabis into the country.

Ingabire, 32, was arrested on October 28 in Bugoyi cell. Police also recovered 540 pellets of marijuana in the suspect’s house.

The Western Province Police Spokesperson, Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu said Ingabire sneaked the narcotics into Rubavu from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo through an illegal border.

The suspect is currently held at Gisenyi Police Station as investigations continue.

Supt. Hitayezu said information of Ingabire’s illegal dealings was provided by area residents. He lauded them and urged them to give no room for such illegal acts.

“This is a good and required collaboration if such illegal acts are to be combated. It is the responsibility of anyone to fight every illegal act happening in their society,” Supt. Hitayezu said.
